The City & Trafalgar Square - The London Sightseeing Tour

The City & Trafalgar Square

As we move through the City of London, you are travelling through the historic financial district — often called the “Square Mile.”

We pass The Monument, built to commemorate the Great Fire of London in 1666. Standing 62 metres tall, it marks the exact distance from the site where the fire began.

Nearby stands the Bank of England, founded in 1694 and sometimes referred to as “the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street.” It has played a central role in global finance for over three centuries.

Along Fleet Street, once the home of Britain’s newspaper industry, we pass the impressive Royal Courts of Justice, where major legal cases are heard.

The Strand leads us toward one of London’s most famous public squares — Trafalgar Square. At its centre rises Nelson’s Column, guarded by four bronze lions. The column commemorates Admiral Lord Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Overlooking the square is the National Gallery, home to masterpieces by artists such as Van Gogh, Turner and Da Vinci.

This is a lively hub for celebrations, protests and cultural events — a true meeting place of London.
